Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular treatments in the beauty industry to date. Many opt for this treatment because it allows them to regain time lost while shaving, and freedom to enjoy a better quality of life through smoother skin. This treatment reduces the number of hairs to anywhere between 60-95%, which helps to reduce ingrown hairs, improves skin quality, eliminates stubble, and alleviates irritation - commonly known issues that arise with regular shaving.

What is it and how does it work?

For hair removal, in our clinic, we use the medical-grade All White Triple Wavelength Diode laser which is the newest technology on the market. It emits a red light as it passes over the skin that is absorbed by the hairs. This creates heat that damages and destroys the hair follicles over a full course of treatments, resulting in a long-term reduction of hair.

How many sessions do I need?

You should expect to have around 8-10 sessions for women and 12-14 for men, usually spaced out 4-8 weeks apart, with some cases 8-10 weeks apart, depending on your hair growth rate and type of hair. This is usually determined by the technician, and is assessed per individual.

Does my hair still grow during laser treatments?

It is normal for your hair to regrow in-between sessions. It will however grow slower and finer in texture. This happens because the laser stunts the hair follicles temporarily during your course of treatments. You may find that you will shave less between your sessions because of this, and the hair growth rate will return to normal once the course of treatments is complete.

How do I know when my course is finished?

You should experience very fine hairs with more skin visible than hair. Success rates differ per client, and the follicle reduction can range anywhere between 60-95%.

Am I a candidate for this treatment?

The laser is designed to be attracted to pigment in the hair, so as long as your hair is dark, black or brown, you can achieve a great result. Laser hair removal does not work on white, blonde, grey, silver, or red hair.

Pregnant and breastfeeding clients cannot have this treatment. If you take medication or have any conditions, always check with the laser technician.

Can I still wax, epilate, or use hair removal creams?

As the laser light must pass through the hairs to reach the roots, the hairs themselves must be in the growth stage (attached to the roots) for the treatment to work, so only shaving is allowed. Contrary to common beliefs, shaving does not make the hair thicker, and you can shave as often as you need to.

What should I expect from my treatment?

Your dedicated laser technician will apply ultrasound gel onto the area to begin with, and while they are performing the treatment, you should expect to feel a tingling sensation. The treatment is virtually PAIN-FREE, with minimal to no discomfort on areas such as legs and arms, and some mild to medium discomfort on areas such as bikini and upper lip. You can resume your daily activities as normal afterwards.

How long will my treatment take?

Treatments are usually quick. They can range from 5 minutes for small areas such as upper lip and chin, up to 50 minutes for big areas such as full legs.

Are the results permanent?

Laser hair removal is a long-term reduction of the hair follicles, meaning that once they have been successfully destroyed, they cannot come back. However, as our hormones fluctuate every year, through certain stimulants like stress, pregnancy, menopause, and other conditions that may affect hair growth, you may notice new follicles in the areas treated, and in some cases some regrowth on the follicles that have remained post treatments. For maintenance of results, we recommend 2-3 top-up sessions with a 6-week spacing, once every 9- 12 months, or as needed.

What are the side effects?

You may experience a warm sensation, some mild redness, and in some cases follicular oedema (swelling of the hair follicle). These are normal, and will resolve in up to 48h with appropriate aftercare, which can be purchased in the clinic.
